Samsung Focus S and Focus Flash launch with WP7 Mango

These two devices both will run the new Windows Phone 7.5 which is better known as Mango.

The windows mobile operating system has been overshadowed by Android and Apple’s iSO but Microsoft are about to try and change this, with Mango and top notch handsets to go with it.

At the higher end of the spectrum is the Samsung focus S and the Focus Flash is a lower grade model.

Firstly the Focus S has a huge 4.3-inch screen, which is the same size as on the Samsung Galaxy S II. The screen makes navigating and general use superb.

On top of that it’s a Super AMOLED touchscreen, giving images that will look crisp, sharp and bright. This type of screen is said to be on the Google Nexus Prime as well.

It also features an 8-megapixel rear and 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, and with all this it is only 8.55mm thick. Moreover in the device there is a very quick 1.4 GHz processor, so multitasking shouldn’t be a problem.

Even though the Focus Flash is a lower end model it still has a good specification. It has the same 1.4 GHz processor as the Focus S, however the camera is downgraded to 5 megapixels. Nevertheless there is a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED screen to keep you happy.

Mango is said to have 500 new features and with the two high quality Samsung devices this should be an all round crowd pleaser.

Samsung Spinpoint M8 1TB laptop hard disk revealed

Samsung has announced a new hard drive for notebooks, the Spinpoint M8 with a 1TB capacity.

This is a 2.5 inch notebook drive which manages to fit its 1TB storage space over two platters rather than three, meaning that it’s a slimmer unit than most drives of this form-factor and size, and more likely to fit into the more svelte laptops out there.

The M8 has an 8MB buffer and is a 5400rpm drive which can pipe 3Gbps via SATA. The device’s noise levels are kept down by NoiseGuard technology, and the build has been designed to offer a good level of shock resistance should it be needed.

The small but capacious drive has been priced up Stateside at $129, with a UK price yet to be confirmed.

Vodafone drops original Samsung Galaxy Tab for new 10.1

Vodafone has decided to lose the original Galaxy Tab 10.1 from its line-up.

This is because, as you’ll be aware if you’ve been following Samsung’s multiple slates, the company has renamed the older model the 10.1v after it brought out a new slimmer version.

While that might seem like an odd thing to have done, it was basically a reaction to the iPad 2′s emergence onto the market with a more lightweight and svelte figure than the original Apple tablet.

So Voda has decided to drop support for the chunkier version of the Tab 10.1, and notified customers in an email Engadget was sent.

Vodafone said: “We’ve decided to add the slimmer Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to our range, which will now take the place of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v.”

The downside is the 8 megapixel camera of the original has been banished for a 3 megapixel affair in a trade-off to make the device more compact.
